Excellent, fast delivery, well packaged and very good price, well done.
Let me start this review by saying that i’m always on the hunt for a better surround experience from a pair of headphones. In the past i’ve had some gaming headphones with multiple drivers in each ear cup that didn’t really work (but had great bass). I was intrigued when sony announced these and couldn’t wait to get my hands on them without having to import them from japan. I ordered some from amazon as soon as they had stock and stock is quite erratic at the moment (early may 2014). On opening the box i was struck by how tightly packed they were in the box, considering the headphones are quite large and there is also a processor in there as well it’s a bit of a squeeze, something that should be noted if you need to re-pack them. Without waiting (as usual) i powered on the headphones and i was happy to see there was at least some charge in the battery (mid-level as reported on the processor osd). I wired it up to an old samsung blu-ray player and tv via a single hdmi cable into input 1 on the box with no changes on the processor and by just placing the headphones on my head things sprung to life immediately. There is a sensor in the right ear cup that switches on the processor unit when you place the headphones over your ears. Something was wrong, i had no sound at all, first mistake, the volume control on the right ear cup was down at zeroi watched the opening sequence of star trek – intro darkness, my first impressions were. First of all the good pointsimpressive bass – not the earth shattering, chest cavity vibrating sort but impressive for a set of headphones and this was without any tweaking of the lfe level on the box. Great frequency response – from the highest highs to the lfe lows you could certainly hear everything clearly, including the dialogue. Very good separation of each frequency, the lows did not obscure the highs. Very little sound leakage and great isolation. Excellent range – i could easily get 20m in a semi open plan office with the frequency setting set to auto (it had chosen then 5ghz band).
Fantastic headphones for movies if you want these for movies buy these music my opinion average but boy do these shine with movies the only complaint i have is it would of been nice to have a pouch or a charging dock very very highly recommended for movies.

, Beware claims regarding 4K Passthrough!
First the good, very comfortablegood attempt at sudo surround sound with different settingshandy if you do not have enough hdmi inputs on your tvon screen menu systemnow the bad,4k passthrough only with 25 hz ( not 50 or 60 hz ) so will downsize to 1080p by default from your input device. If you will be happy to watch your 4k content in 1080p then happy days but what is the point in that. The only way round is to use the optical in from your tv but will loose a lot of functionality which begs the question, why buy it in the first place?.
I have mild to moderate hearing loss, and like to avoid wearing my hearing aids whenever possible. Additionally, when i do use my aids, i don’t really benefit from my husband’s surround sound system. I decided to try these and don’t regret it. Admittedly, some may find the surround sound a little underwhelming at first, especially if they’re used to the real thing (as my husband is). But the sound does have an unusual depth to it, i kind of feel that i’m listening in 3d. These headphones are by far the best i’ve ever had, and i don’t regret purchasing them in the slightest.
Good quality sound, great wireless capability. Definitely, worth the money. Not as good as a quality surround speaker set-up, of course. . Eg takes a bit of getting used to centre/front sound being ‘in your head’ instead of being projected forward toward you and overall soundstage feels a bit confined. They look heavy but they are actually quite comfortabe. Although adjustable they are still a tad too long for my medium sized female head. (when will male designers wake-up to the fact that females like tech too,)overall, i am happy with these headphones.
This is one of the best electronic items i have ever bought. Comfort is excellent, battery life is awesome. If i watch tv or a film without them on it seems to be missing something. I even use them to listen to music though they are not as good as my sennheiser hd800 but the wireless freedom makes them very convenient.May be expensive but in my opinion worth every penny – i didn’t buy them from amazon, i imported form japan which took a while but saved a few ££ even after the £68 import fees. I’d buy another without hesitation if needed.
Excelent audio, 4 stars only because no bluetooth system and no jack port so it is a very limited headset for the high price.
After having various gaming headsets i always felt like they didn’t deliver but these really do, the bass rumbles like a subwoofer and the surround effect is almost like having a box on your head with the audio bouncing around. They are very loud and support everything including hd audio. Before you purchase these i would highly recommend checking your tv has a hdmi arc port as this is the only way to really use these headphones although you can use optical i wouldn’t recommend it as you won’t get high definition audio such has dolby hd master.
Generally good sound and there is a good try at surround but not as efficient as separate speakers. 0 not supported so no hdr or dolby vision pass through. Could benefit from the processor getting a upgrade.
Great sound and very comfortable. Would award 5 stars and recommend if being used as a stand-alone device but when daisy-chained through an existing home cinema system you are forced to make compromises because of arc system spec limitations, resulting in the loss of the surround sound or constantly switching hdmi leads between amp and headphone processer box. I had to return the headphones as i wasn’t prepared to put up with the short-comings on such an expensive kit.
My husband is very fussy about his music and television sound quality. I was getting a bit fed up of the high volume when he is listening to some music or a movie and bought these having read good reviews on them. Great product for the money.
Japanese version better, allows 4 headphones to be synched. Uk version does not have this feature.
Excellent very good sound ,with a good bass rumble when needed.
Does what it says on the box. I wanted to be able to watch movies later in the evening without disturbing my neighbors. I do have a credible (speaker based) surround sound system that can be quite loud. These earphones don’t replace that kind of experience, you can’t expect them too. However i felt they did work for me by giving me an enjoyable surround sound effect via a pair of headphones. As for people saying they do not work so well with music, i didn’t buy them for music. I bought them for movie and tv use and they certainly work well for that.
I thought i would try these, as i was intrigued by the 7. I generally use senn hd 800, shure 846,westone 4r, so not expecting to be as good, particular as there are wireless. I use these with a sky box,and a mac mini computer. The box is a simple affair, 3 hdmi in,. Out,opt in, opt out, and analog line in. The closed back headphones are quite well made, very comfortable, and very stable. They have to be set up,via the headphones,so make sure you can read the display on the main unit. The usb charging and the on/off switch is on one ear cup,and menu/volume/input, on the other.
I am pretty impressed with these cans, the blow my old rs 130s away in every aspect of performance. Yes, but the build and sound quality shows that the money is well spent, just watched blackhawk down on blu ray with these cans and although it was not as good as my 7. 1 amp and speaker set up for headphones the experience was superb. Highly recommended headphones.
I shall get to the pointpros: good quality, great sound, carry case, works wireless and with cable, long battery life, light weightcons: very annoying feature of stopping the music and the anc when you cover the right ear cup, it is meant to be for convenience if you wish to talk or listen to something but easily triggered by mistake. Also doesn’t connect to more than one device at a time( such as macbook and iphone , so you can’t get notified of a phone call if you are watching something on the laptop). Finally the touch sensitive buttons are very confusing and cumbersome to use.
I bought a pair of these headphones january 2015, they are still amazing to use, balanced sound, not too heavy, and durable if looked after well. I use these every day and couldn’t ask for a better pair of wireless over ear cans. Very pleased and definately recommend them.
Just what i expected and more. Well made and comfortable to wear for a long time. All modes of dolby right up to 9. 1 and including dts was produced faultlessly. Connection to my av set up was a dream, i connected my smart tv by optical input straight into the supplied control box and all my other av items by hdmi and it all worked a treat. One or two complaints about the quality listening to music audio in some reviews, suited me ok. Prime job for these cans is to listen and watch movies in surround sound and they do not disappoint.
Bought this in october so thought i would wait a few months before reviewing so that i can test it properly. Good wifi range – i can continue listening to a programme 60+ feet away and through walls. Sound quality is very good indeed and is very involving. Great for late night listening at loud levels. Very easy to set up however you do need to read the manual carefully particularly if connecting your system through a av amp. These phones are comfortable to wear – a big plus for a 2. Batter charge in the headphones last for about 12 hours.
I’ve held off writing this review as i haven’t used these headphones much since i got them. Various reasons for that but one was that i was not impressed by the sound initially. That was probably because i had just got a pair of sennheiser rs 185s, which although they are designed for music, i’m using them solely for watching tv, films and video gaming. The rs185s sound even better to me than the wired philips fidelio x2s which i was previously using. The problem with the rs185s is that they are slightly tight on my head so i’m happy to sit through a one hour tv show or a two hour film at most, but i don’t use them for lengthy gaming sessions. This is why i am happy to keep these sony mdrs, they feel nice and premium, they are comfortable to wear for hours at a time, the sound is good and the surround effect is interesting. I’d considered getting these for a couple of years and the differing reviews and various concerns i had meant that i held off pulling the trigger. I’m still glad that i finally went for them, as there are very few wireless headphones for tv viewing in this upper price range. Edit: i’ve updated my score from 4 stars to 5, the reason for this is because i have come to really like these headphones. I think initially i was disappointed because i like listening to the rs185s (which are open backed) at full volume and it is a powerful driving sound which i like and these mdrs at first seemed a bit weak by comparison.
Takes a little while to set these bad boys up. Used them to pass through to my main av receiver and with a direct uncompressed sound source they are amazing. I now find it very difficult to watch movies through my speakers, to have a similar sound level the rest of my street would be listening too.
